Picture this: you’re working in a popular restaurant’s kitchen. It’s dinnertime and the orders start rolling in. The counter-mounted printer is spitting out tickets left and right. A 10-top just walked in, celebrating their grandfather’s birthday over a four-course meal. The servers are starting to hustle faster. As they scurry by, the aroma of eight different dishes wafts through the air. Then you hear a call from a line cook that makes your stomach sink. “Hey, the fryer pilot won’t light! I think it’s busted!” In these moments, 86 Repairs comes to the rescue. In our latest case study, learn how a team of Atoms partnered with the restaurant repair and maintenance SaaS to extend their web app into a mobile form factor, which cut reporting time in half. Have you come across Trauma-informed Design? More than half of U.S. adults report exposure to at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. This calls for empathy and understanding in the software we develop. Enter TiD. The concept got its start shaping physical spaces that reduce stress and promote healing. Over the past year, Software Design Practice Lead Kimberly Crawford has taken a deep dive into TiD and how it applies to the software we craft. She built a 12-principle digital TiD framework that guides best practices for software applications—addressing issues like toxic stress and the survival brain. Using this framework, we’ve shipped trauma-informed designs for clients across use cases—from enhancing educational platforms to combating online harassment. DM us if you're interested in learning more about Kimberly's work and how it might enhance your organization's digital offerings.

You wouldn’t trust a marketing intern to write your company’s marketing material on their first day, so why would you put an LLM’s content in front of your customers? Software Developer Joe Chrysler talks about some of the boundaries you might want to draw between LLMs and your customers.

As we close out #BCorpMonth, Taylor Vanden Hoek, a Managing Partner at our Raleigh office, reflects on what our B Corp status can mean to our clients. “We’re engaged in our communities, building relationships to help create value outside of our own four walls. And, it means supporting a business model that is accountable to being better for workers and for the environment. In practice, B Corps have a greater probability of being stable and sustainable. If you’re looking for a partner or vendor that optimizes for getting it right the first time, delivering a great experience, and paying it forward to their people and communities, look no further than a B Corp.” Link in comment.
