We are thrilled to share the incredible success of the second annual Phenomenal U event organized by the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Employee Resource Group. On Saturday, April 6, 65 middle school and high school girls attended the event at Fayetteville State University. This year marked a milestone for Phenomenal U, as we welcomed double the number of girls compared to last year’s event. The overwhelming turnout is a testament to the importance of creating spaces where underrepresented voices can be heard and celebrated. With a lineup of speakers, workshops, and panel discussions, Phenomenal U provided a platform for the girls to connect, learn, and flourish. They were able to participate in firsthand learning activities and hear advice from current college students and local business owners. We are also incredibly proud that Phenomenal U attracted double the number of sponsors this year, highlighting the growing support and recognition for initiatives that promote diversity and equity in our community. We would like to thank our sponsors, Junior League of Fayetteville, Metronet, First Citizens Bank, Florence Roger’s Charitable Trust, and Fayetteville State University for hosting the event. Please join us in congratulating the recent achievements of three outstanding Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines team members, Charlyse Myhand-McDaniel, Marissa Fein, and Paige Doster-Grimes. Charlyse Myhand-McDaniel, Communications Manager, graduates this month from Johnson & Wales University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. Marissa Fein, Placement Specialist, graduates this month from Fayetteville State University with a Master of Arts in Sociology degree. Paige Doster-Grimes, Senior Accountant recently earned the Not-for-Profit-Certificate from The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to the valuable contributions they will continue to make to their team and our organization.

We celebrate Earth Day annually on April 22nd. Earth Day reminds us of the importance of protecting and preserving our environment. 🌳🌸 Girl Scouts are helping to protect and preserve the environment by participating in the National Service Project Initiative: Girl Scout Tree Promise. In April 2021, the Girl Scouts partnered with the Elliott Wildlife, Values Project, American Forests, and SciStarter to launch an environmental and conservation initiative. The goal is to plant five million trees in five years. International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th. The theme for this year is “Inspire Inclusion.” On this day, let’s bring attention to and focus on the accomplishments, challenges, and contributions of women throughout history. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate women and their achievements in various career fields and the significant impact of their ongoing contributions to society. While celebrating this day, we acknowledge there’s still work to be done. Gender should never be a barrier to success. We must continue to drive positive change for gender equality to foster a more inclusive society for all future generations.
